Mohamed Abdulkadir Ali Member The MP whos election is disputed

The reporting of suspected election fraud in connection with his election to parliament has been stressful “both personally and politically,” Mohamed Ali writes in a post on Facebook.

According to Ali, the fact that he has taken two weeks off from parliament should not be interpreted as him resigning from his position or as an admission of guilt.

Mohamed Ali is critical of the reporting on his background, his personal opinions and his previous financial situation. He believes he has been judged by double standards.

“I have seen reports and comments where conclusions have been drawn about me before the ongoing processes and investigations have been allowed to run their course. For me, it is important that the facts are brought to light and that people are not judged in public before there is proper evidence,” he writes.

“Questioned on different terms”

He finds the fact that the debate was about his origins particularly difficult.

“It also risks making other Swedes with a minority background feel that their participation in democracy is being questioned on different terms.”

He believes that a false impression has been spread that he was not involved in the Left Party’s election work and writes that he participated in door-knocking and visits to both Borlänge and other communities in Dalarna.

Two weeks off

Mohamed Ali will not be present when the Riksdag opens on Monday. He writes that he has requested two weeks off to deal with the situation. After that, he plans to return to his duties as a member of parliament regardless of how other processes and investigations go.

“I want to be clear that my leave application does not mean that I am resigning from my assignment, nor should it be interpreted as an admission of guilt,” he writes.

Received 648 personal votes in the election

Mohamed Ali was in ninth place on the Left Party’s parliamentary list in Dalarna. But thanks to 648 personal votes, he received a seat as a member of parliament.

A little over a week after the election, prosecutors announced that an investigation had been opened into suspected election fraud in connection with the personal campaign. Ali himself is not suspected of any crime, but the police are investigating circumstances surrounding his election campaign.

The investigation also includes a man who won first place in the municipal election through personal votes .

Klas Holmgren, board member of the Left Party Borlänge, tells SVT News that both men are well-known names locally.

– In these residential areas, they are well-known people and we have seen that during the election campaign. It is nothing remarkable that it leads to many personal crosses, he says.
