Two Swedes, one Briton and a Belgian were killed in the Stockholm truck attack that also left 15 people injured, Swedish police said Sunday.

“We have confirmed the identities of the dead, and their families have been informed,” Stockholm police official Jan Evensson told reporters. Police would not reveal the identities of the four victims.

The British victim has been named as Chris Bevington, a 41-year-old who worked for Spotify and who ITV News reports had been living in Stockholm for ten years.

His father, John Bevington, said in a statement: “We are all devastated by the untimely and tragic death of our talented, compassionate and caring son Chris.”

“A wonderful husband, son, father, brother and close friend to many. The family requests absolute privacy at this incredibly difficult time to mourn his passing in peace.”

The Foreign Office in London said Swedish police had confirmed to them that a British man was among the dead, while the Belgian foreign ministry said a Belgian woman had been killed.

The family of an 11-year-old Swedish girl have meanwhile confirmed she was one of the four people killed in the attack.

The fourth victim was only known to be a Swedish national.

The suspected perpetrator of the attack was scheduled to be deported from Sweden, but authorities had not been able to enforce the expulsion, police also said at a press conference Sunday.

The man, a 39-year-old Uzbek national, had unsuccessfully applied for residency in Sweden and is also reported to have shown ‘interest’ in terror group Islamic State.

Security has been strengthened at several locations in the country, said deputy chief inspector Jan Evensson at a press conference Sunday.

“There is a specific focus in our response. Our main aims are to prevent new crimes and provide security,” Evenson said.

Police have carried out around 500 interviews and studied 40 pieces of digital evidence, mainly videos, reports TT.

Information relating to the police investigation of the 39-year-old Uzbek suspect had become more guarded yesterday, ostensibly as the investigation continues.

More interviews will be carried out while the 39-year-old’s movements on Friday, along with his contact with others, are mapped out, according to TT.

Police confirmed earlier today that two people were taken in for questioning Sunday morning following a raid by the National Task Force (Nationella insatsstyrkan, NI) in Sollentuna, north of Stockholm.

A second person has now been formally placed under arrest in connection with the attack, reports TT.

Ten people are still being treated for injuries sustained during Friday’s attack, according to Stockholm Municipality’s press office. Four are seriously injured, of which two remain in intensive care.

Six, including one child, are being treated for minor injuries.

National commanding police officer Jonas Hysing told broadcaster SVT that seven people have been taken in for questioning in addition to the 39-year-old man detained on suspicion of terrorism offences.
