The Starsky plane appeared to crash on the shoreline of the Indian Ocean, which is just next to the airport. Videos posted to X showed passengers leaving the plane and walking away. It is not yet known whether there have been any injuries.

State minister for aviation, Abdikarim Abdow Haydar, said authorities are committed to modernising airport infrastructure and urged domestic carriers “to replace ageing aircraft with newer models to reduce risks”.

Witnesses saw plane ‘skidding across water’
