More lanes open to anti-fugitive law protesters
All six lanes of Hennessy Road and Lockhart Road are now open to protesters, according to police.
Police had reserved three westward bound lanes for the protest against fugitive law amendment. But at around 4pm, protesters rushed out to eastward bound Hennessy Road under Canal Road Flyover.
Red warning flags were raised twice, and a protester comprehended and arrested.
Police finally decided to open all six lanes at around 4.40pm.
Three hours since the protest started at 2.40pm, crowds still filled Victoria Park, which is the starting point of the rally.
First batch of protesters arrived at central government headquarters at 4pm. Organizer Civil Human Rights Front led protesters to walk in circles around the Legislative Council, which they said was a “rehearsal” for surrounding the building as the next step of protest against the amendment bill.
Second reading of the bill will resume at LegCo this Wednesday.
