Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Five Islamic State members were killed in a joint operation, west of Anbar, the Iraqi Interior Minister said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the ministry’s Security Media Center, said “the Jazeera Operations Command, in collaboration with the U.S.-led Coalition troops, managed to kill 15 militants inside a cave, northeast of Akashat region.”
The cave, according to the center, “included explosive belts and weapons for the militants.”
On Sunday, two Islamic State members were arrested as they were planning for attacking governmental institutions, east of Ramadi city. On Friday, security sources were quoted saying that two Islamic State members were arrested, as they were planning to form a terrorist cell, south of Fallujah.
Last week, security forces reportedly arrested two Islamic State members in an operation that targeted Nezal and Jubail districts in Fallujah. Weapons and fake ID cards were found in their possession.
Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.
Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.
