Joint Statement of President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jon Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at the Singapore Summit.

President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jon Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a first, historic summit in Singapore on June 12, 2018.

President Trump and Chairman Kim Jon Un conducted a comprehensive, in-depth and sincere exchange of opinions on the issues related to the establishment of a new US-DPRK relations and the building of a lasting and robust peach regime on the Korean Peninsula. President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclarization of the Korean peninsula.

Convinced that the establishment of new US-DPRK relations will contribute to the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and of the world, and recognizing that mutual confidence building can promote the denuclarization of the Korean Peninsula, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un state the following:

1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new US-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.

2. The Unite States and the DPRK will join the efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

3. Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panumunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work toward complete denuclerarization of the Korean Peninsula.

4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

Having acknowledged that the US-DRPK summit – the first in history – was a epochal event of great significance in overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening up of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un commit to implement the stipulations in this joint agreement fully and expeditiously. The United States and the DPRK commit to hold follow-on negotiations, led by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and a relevant high-level DPRK official, at the earliest possible date, to implement the outcomes of the US-DPRK summit.

President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have committed to cooperate for the development of new US-DPRK relations and for the promotion of peace, prosperity, and the security of the Korean Peninsula and of the world.

2:21 p.m. Kim returns to the St Regis hotel

Kim is due to depart Singapore soon. The exact details of the document are still not known. Trump is scheduled to give a press conference at 5 p.m. (KST). He will then leave Singapore via Paya Lebar Airbase.

(Post-summit) Trump: “We will meet again”

Trump and Kim will meet again, the U.S. President said Tuesday at the conclusion of their unprecedented summit in Singapore. “We’ll meet again,” Trump said after a signing ceremony, standing with Kim on the verandah where they first met. “We will meet many times.“

(Post-summit) Trump invites Kim to White House

Trump said he would be “absolutely” willing to invite North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un to the White House after a historic meeting in Singapore. Asked by reporters if he would invite him to Washington, Trump said: “Absolutely, I would.”

2:38 p.m. Kim, Trump sign an agreement after a longer-than-expected waiting.

“We’re signing a very important document, pretty comprehensive document, and we’ve had a really great time together, a great relationship… More will be discussed at a press conference soon,” said Trump.

“We have developed a special bond,” he said. The meeting was far better than anybody ever predicted, he added. When asked about denuclearization, Trump said, “We are starting the process very very quickly.”

“Today we had a very historic meeting, overcoming our past history and embarking on a new beginning. We’re about to sign a historic agreement, and the world will see a major change. I’d like to express my gratitude to Mr. Trump to make this happen,” said Kim.

Trump asked: “Mr. Kim would you like to come to Washington?” before both men walked out of the room after the signing.

1:36 p.m. Kim, Trump return to Capella Hotel to sign an agreement.

Trump: “A lot of progress. Really, very positive, I think better than anybody could have expected, top of the line, really good.” (before showing Kim the interior of “The Beast,” his armor-plated limousine.

“We’re going right now for a signing,” Trump said, referring to an unspecified document. “We’ll announce that in a couple of minutes.”

Kim said nothing.

10:50 a.m. The one-on-one meeting ends. An extended meeting attended by their staffs begins.

“Working together we will get it taken care of,” Trump told Kim at the start of the extended meeting. “We will solve it.”

Trump: The one-on-one meeting with Kim was “very, very good,” says they have an “excellent relationship.”

Trump: He and Kim “will solve a big problem, a big dilemma.”

10:48 a.m. Trump, Kim walk together along balcony after a 41-minute one-on-one meeting.

10:03 a.m. Kim, Trump begin a historic one-on-one meeting with a handshake.

Kim: “The way to come to here was not easy.” (sitting at a table with Trump) “The old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward but we overcame all of them and we are here today.”

Trump: “We’re going to have a great discussion.” (shortly after the handshake) “It’s my honor, and we’re going to have a terrific relationship.”

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are holding their historic summit at Capella Hotel in Singapore’s Sentosa island to discuss the North’s denuclearization.

The meeting started at 10 a.m. (9 a.m. Singapore time). It was the first-ever sit-down between the leaders of the Korean War adversaries and the culmination of a months-long flurry of diplomacy.

The two leaders started the meeting with a handshake, followed by a private one-on-one meeting. They will be joined later by their staffs for an extended meeting and a working lunch. 

Trump will hold a press conference later Tuesday. It’s uncertain if Kim will co-host it.
