AirAsia cancels 32 flights to and from Bali after volcano eruption

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia has cancelled 32 flights to and from Bali and Lombok and rescheduled two other flights following the eruption of Mount Agung on Sunday (Nov 26).

The low cost carrier said in a statement that affected passengers would be notified of their flight status and their available options via e-mail.

Passengers are advised to check their flight status via the “Manage My Booking” feature on the AirAsia website.

According to AirAsia, passengers affected by the flight are entitled to change to a new travel time on the same route within 30 calendar days from the original flight without additional cost.

Alternatively, passengers can also choose to retain the value of their fare in a credit account for future travel.

The airline said it is coordinating with authorities and will continually conduct risk assessments to ensure the safety of its operations.

“AirAsia will provide updates on the latest developments,” it said, advising guests requiring further information and assistance to contact its customer support team.

Passengers are advised to check the airline’s website and social media pages for further announcements.

In the most powerful series of eruptions so far, Mount Agung erupted three times on Sunday morning, spewing a column of ash up to 4km into the atmosphere and forcing authorities to ban flights over the area.

A national disaster agency official said that the island’s airport 70km south of the volcano remains operational.
