54 dead in bomb attack that targeted a mosque in Egypt

Official sources state that 54 people have been killed and 85 injured in a bomb expolision in Northern Sinai on Friday.

Unknown militants detonated an explosive device in a mosque in the village of al-Rawdah in the center of the town of Bir al-Abed in Northern Sinai.

Sources said that unknown persons planted an explosive device next to the mosque in the village and detonated the bomb during Friday prayers.

The Egyptian military is conducting a sweep around explosion area, sources have reported while a state of emergency has been announced in Cario.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has also instructed the military and police to secure all religious sites in Sinai after the attack.

Egyptian authorities earleir closed the recently opened Rafah border passage with Gaza after the attack citing security concerns.
