Fire crews and paramedics arrived at Bombay Bhel, an Indian restaurant at 5035 Hurontario St. near Eglinton Ave., around 10:30 p.m.

“There were two individuals seen entering and detonating the device and two individuals that were seen fleeing the restaurant,” Const. Iryna Yashnyk told reporters at the scene.

Three people were taken to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with critical injuries, Peel Region paramedic Joe Korstanje told the Star. Around 3 a.m., Peel police confirmed that all three were in stable condition.

The other 12 people suffered what Korstanje described as minor or superficial wounds, although Const. Irina Yashnyk said police were “still assessing the extent of injuries.”

Local resident Martin Cybelius, who lives around 4 km south of the restaurant, told the Star that he experienced what felt like a “small earthquake,” and subsequently saw police cruisers and ambulances heading towards the area.

Another resident, Gursh Sagoo, was driving north on Hurontario St. approaching Eglinton Ave. and saw the police cars and ambulances at the scene. “Initially I thought it was a car accident but once I saw all the vehicles turning into the parking lot of the restaurant then I knew it was something more serious,” Sagoo said.

The front doors of the restaurant were shattered but intact. Police said the plaza would be sealed off all night.

On social media, the Consulate General of India in Toronto said it has opened a helpline for anyone in need of assistance as a result of the explosion.

Police described the first suspect as in his mid-20s, 5’10-6 feet with a stocky build, wearing dark blue jeans, a dark zip-up hoodie and a baseball cap with light grey peak.

The second suspect is described as 5’9”-5’10” with a thin build, wearing faded blue jeans, a dark zip-up hoodie, grey t-shirt and dark coloured skate shoes.

The image released by police shows both men with dark hoodies pulled over their heads and their faces covered.
